The
day will introduce you to
the sport of kayaking. All
equipment is provided to
make the day a comfortable
one. Meeting at the river
at 9.30am to issue personal
kit and talk about the day
ahead. Once you have had
a safety brief we will help
you to learn the fundamental
strokes required to control
your kayak. The day will
be taken at a pace to suit
a first time kayaker with
regular breaks and plenty
of chat. The day will be
wrapped up around 4.00pm
with a de briefing.

The
1 Star is a clear stepping
stone to becoming a paddler.
Designed as a basic award,
the one star is the level
people would typically reach
after an introductory course
of six hours quality water
time.

Star Syllabus
Craft
The award is obtained by
taking the assessment in
any style of kayak or canoe
(where the test is taken
by a doubles crew, a variation
of bow and stern positions
must be demonstrated).
Pre-requisites
Should be able
to swim. This is desirable
but not essential.
