You need to have completed an introduction or beginners course for kayaking. This would be your first river trip on moving water upto grade II rapids
Introducing river kayaking on grade one moving water
The weekend provides 2 days of training to control your boat on Grade I/II white water. If your looking to move from flat water paddling and start to experience the river environment this weekend is great to improve confidence and increase your toolbox of skills. During the summer months the river levels are mainly low, making the training relaxed with warmer water.
You will need to make your own accommodation arrangements choosing from one of the many options available in this stunning Mid Wales, Wye valley.

Day one - Breifing, kayaking skills
Day two - River Trip Awareness
The day starts with a flat water session to introduce or improve on skills required for Grade II white water paddling. In the afternoon the group will be introduced to river features and hazards that we find on moving water. The river trip will be 3 miles on a gentle GradeI/II section of the river Wye. The day will be spent making you comfortable and confident on the river, using personel skills and group river running techniques.The focus is on safety and making you feel confident and in control.
.The second day is all about the river trip. This will give you a chance to improve your skills and travel 5 miles downstream. You will get the chance to experience surfing a small river wave, improve ferry gliding and tune up your river reading and boat control skills. The aim is to make you more confident in moving water and give you a set of kayaking techniques to practice. This course will give you a greater understanding of Grade I/ II river skills. Personal feedback will be given throughout the weekend and advice to progress your paddling.
