COURSES » Kayaking Introduction : 5 Day Week :

Kayaking introduction beginner Week Course
Course Fee 300 per person. Deposit to book a place 150
Location/Venue Talybont - River Usk/Wye, Brecon Beacons National Park, Powys, Wales.
Course Duration 5 Days Training, Monday - Friday (9.30am - 5.00pm)
Arrive Sunday evening departing bunkhouse Friday morning
Kayak Equipment We can provide ww kayaks, ww Dry cags, Wetsuits, Carbon paddles, Helemts, Neoprene sray decks and ww bouancy aids included in the course fee.
Maximum Places 6 Available, groups of 8 are possible.
Paddling Ability

Aimed at the complete beginner, your first time in a kayak or building on other introduction courses you have done. Perfect for your first river trip down the River Wye

This course is great fun to introduce you to kayaking on the river. The 5 days of training will cover many key control skills and safety topics based on river kayaking. Each day builds on previous skills learnt allowing for practice time. Your first time is challenging, and you will need practice to improve.

Learn a new outdoor activity on holiday and discover kayaking in Wales on the river Wye.

Monday 9.30am-4.30pm - Paddling Skills and Strokes
Meeting up by the for a briefing about the week ahead. Also Introducing the equipment used for kayaking during the week. Your first steps can be frustrating, and the forward paddling technique will take some time to master. Control with key strokes will be taught including sideways movements, stopping, turning and capsize drills. We spend the day on a canal, a nice relaxing location to get to grips with the skills.

Tuesday 9.30am-4.00pm - Skills Practice
Recap on control skills and lots of practice time. A few more new strokes will be introduced to increase your boat control. Open practice and general skills, personal feedback sessions. The day is to improve and recap the fundamental kayaking skills.

Wednesday 12.,30pm-3.30pm - Capsize / Rescues and Practice
Everyone has a fear of the unkown. With the capsize drill we make sure you have a full understanding and correct practice with spraydecks and swimming. This will let you become more relaxed and improve your confidence.

Thursday 9.30am-4.00pm - River Trip
. Recap on control skills and the first river trip down a grade I river. You will experience the rivers flow at grade I, a fun trip introducing the river features and techniques we use as kayakers. Training sessions are spread out over the trip and some white water techniques will be introduced.
Friday 10.00am-5.00pm - River Trip
5 Mile river trip using all river features and a grade II rapid, a fun day enjoying kayaking. Thoughout the day we will discuss your next steps as a new paddler.
