Aimed at the complete beginner, your first time in a kayak or building on other introduction courses you have done. Perfect for your first river trip down the River.
A great outdoor activity holiday in Wales kayaking.
The week provides 5 days of training and fun on the water learning to paddle a kayak safely on the river.
Starting with calm flat water sessions to build your confidence, then progressing towards a short trip with some gentle rapids. The introduction week is a great way to discover or try river kayaking. The first day will give you time to get to grips with the boat and all the equipment used to make kayaking a fun and safe outdoor activity.
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor the week will provide you with practice time to learn some boat control skills. During the course we will go on 3 river trips to achieve a good understanding of rivers and how to paddle safely down stream. Kayaking is a great way to explore the countryside and when you are in control and work as a team you can progress to white water kayaking.
Make new friends on this holiday and course and give yourself a great start to paddling rivers. We incorporate basic safety and rescue techniques during the week and your first look at the rolling skill.

Monday - Briefing, kayaking skills
Tuesday - River Trip
The day starts with meeting the other members of the course. After sorting the kit out we will go on flat water to introduce or improve on skills required for River Kayaking. In the afternoon we recap and practice foundation strokes.
.he second day is all about the river trip. the group will be introduced to river features and hazards that we find on moving water. The river trip will be 3 miles on a gentle Grade I section of the river Wye. Looking at eddies and ferry gliding skills. Controlling our decent within the group.
Wednesday - Afternoon Rolling intro
Thursday - River Trip Rescues
3 hrs Indoor swimming pool time. Looking at confidence during capsize, support strokes and the rolling technique.
On this river trip we will look in more detail moving around the river features. Rescue practice is also covered during the trip downstream.
Friday - De brief,, kayaking skills
The final river trip will be 5 miles including a grade 2 rapid. All the weeks skills will be put into practice and a de briefing over coffee to conclude the week.
